time2011/03/18

? Encoder inputs data, which may include lists, numbers, text, personal medical records or forms. This data may be either new or existing and is generally edited thoroughly. Equipment may include electronic files, scanners and sophisticated electronics based on character recognition.

? A prospective encoder should have strong clerical skills, as many of the job duties require a clerical background. This may involve word processing, filing, stenography, transcription and other fundamental clerical skills. In addition, strong customer service skills come into play in jobs in which the encoder must interact with the public, either by phone or in person. And finally, a mastery of computer and electronic equipment is usually mandatory. Hiring managers may require a strong knowledge of and experience with certain software programs, as well as specific electronic equipment.
